Stéphane Couture named president of TechnoMontréal’s Board of Directors
Stéphane Couture, Director of Government Affairs (Quebec) for Bell Canada, has been elected President of the Board of Directors for TechnoMontréal – the information and communications technologies (ICT) cluster of Greater Montreal. He replaces Alain Lavoie, President of Irosoft, who had held the position since 2012. The announcement was made during the organization’s seventh annual General Assembly at the PHI Centre on April 22, 2014. The event took place in the presence of Harout Chitilian, Vice President of the City of Montreal’s Executive Committee and person responsible for information technologies, the Smart City, administrative reform and youth.
“The cluster has achieved a level of maturity that is expressed by the private, institutional and public players coming together. This maturity is also illustrated by an increased mobilization, as well as the confluence of small and large businesses – reinforced specifically by the rule of alternating Board of Directors’ presidencies,” stated Lavoie. “Mr. Couture has contributed to TechnoMontréal’s development since its inception in 2007. He has participated in many committees and working groups within the organization, as well as in the preparation of numerous reports submitted to the Government of Quebec. I am sure that his profound knowledge of the ICT ecosystem and its challenges will allow him to contribute to positioning the cluster as an undeniable leader for partners here and abroad,” he added.
Stéphane Couture holds a Bachelor of Economics from Université Laval (1992) and a Masters in Public Administration from ENAP (1995). Between 1993 and 2000, Couture occupied the positions of Consulting Analyst and Management Consultant to ENAP and CEFRIO, as well as to the General Director of Telecommunications for the Quebec Government’s Secrétariat du Conseil du Trésor. Joining Bell Canada in 2001, he first worked as a Consulting Analyst, then as Marketing Director for Quebec public markets from 2002 to 2007. Since 2007, he has served as the Director of Government Affairs for all of Bell’s entities in Quebec. He has sat on the TechnoMontréal cluster’s Board of Directors since fall 2007 and has been its Vice President since June 2010.
“It is with great enthusiasm that I take on this new challenge. With a very talented pool of personnel and a Board of Directors dedicated to the development of Greater Montreal’s ICT industry, I will focus all my energies in continuing the work of my predecessors since 2007. I am very confident that together, we will be able to achieve the desired goals for the working groups, the cluster and the Montreal Digital Metropolis project,” declared Couture.
